Welcome
The Lexington Symphony Women’s League held the first Blue Grass Charity Ball in December 1961. Fourteen debutantes were presented in the ballroom of the Phoenix Hotel. Among those instrumental in the founding of this tradition were: Mrs. Lawrence Jenkins, President of the Lexington Symphony Women’s League, Mrs. Hampton Adams, Ball Chairman, Mrs. John Winn, Mrs. William R. Hilliard, Mrs. Duncan Stewart, Mrs. Frazee Wilson, Mrs. John Marr, Mrs. Emmet Milward and Mrs. Leonard Cox, Jr. The founders wished to create an organization to which they could devote their time, talent, and efforts to “assist in community betterment and to raise money for charitable purposes.”
Consistent with tradition, each year’s ball is a special evening, combining graciousness and generosity as family, friends and young adults come together to benefit the non-profit organizations that have been selected. The Blue Grass Charity Foundation, Inc. continues to give back to the community in a way that honors its past yet holds vision for its future.

Our Mission
To support Blue Grass charities through lifelong philanthropy and to celebrate our young women as they begin to make their own positive impact in the community.

Community Grants
Each year the BGCF accepts grant applications before the deadline of August 1st. The BGCF charity selections committee reviews proposals from non-profit agencies annually with preference given to projects of high impact, serving the greatest numbers possible and improving the quality of life in the Bluegrass. Grant recipients will be notified between January and February of the following year.
